Who is JustApp for?

This course is designed especially for university students, graduates and professionals who already live in Germany or are planning to spend time there. Many learning situations draw on university life and connect it with topics such as housing, leisure, travel and personal relationships.

JustApp is ideal if you want to learn without fixed class times and set your own pace.

You need basic German at A1.1 level, acquired with Wissero or through a comparable course. You should already be able to give simple information about yourself, understand familiar everyday words and form basic sentences.

What you will learn in German A1.2

You will expand your language skills for everyday life and studying in Germany. Step by step, you will learn to:

• Talk about your holidays: Describe trips, activities and experiences during the semester break, and talk about the weather.

• Talk about new acquaintances: Describe personal connections and practise simple expressions for getting to know people and dating.

• Talk about sports and abilities: Explain what you can, would like to or have to do, and practise signing up for a university sports course.

• Describe and furnish your room: Talk about furniture and decorations, and describe where things are and where you are putting them.

• Understand dates and arrange to meet: Understand announcements about dates, say when your birthday is and arrange activities with others.

• Explain your wishes and plans: Talk about your goals for the semester break and after graduation, and explain why you are studying in Germany.

• Express opinions and feelings: Put simple thoughts and feelings into words and refer to what someone has said.

• Communicate in university life: Understand instructions, speak with lecturers and pass on important information to fellow students.

• Introduce your city and university: Describe places in your university city and on campus, explain what you like and invite others to visit.

You will practise reading, listening, writing and speaking. You will strengthen familiar structures and learn new language tools, such as modal verbs, prepositions of place and sentences with “weil” and “dass”.

A1.2 builds on A1.1 and takes you through the second part of the A1 level.

A clear learning path through nine units

The course includes nine units with three learning objectives each, plus additional exam preparation.

Each learning objective takes you through eight connected steps: an introduction to the topic; an introduction to new vocabulary and grammar; vocabulary practice; grammar practice; and activities in reading, listening, writing and speaking.

The adaptive learning platform takes your current knowledge into account and adjusts the depth of practice. Your progress shows you which content you have already mastered and where you need more practice.

Independent learning – with support

Your AI tutor helps you with questions and explains language concepts at a level that suits you. The smart dictionary lets you look up, collect and review new vocabulary.

For writing and speaking tasks, you receive AI-powered feedback on word choice and grammar, as well as spelling or pronunciation, depending on the task. This helps you see what you are doing well and what you can work on.

The exercises are in German. For explanations, choose your preferred language: English, Turkish, Arabic, Italian, Ukrainian, French, Spanish or Persian.

JustApp is a digital self-study course. Live classes and personal support from a teacher are not included in this format.

Allow around 30–45 minutes per learning objective. A unit with three learning objectives therefore takes approximately 90–135 minutes.

The 27 learning objectives add up to an estimated 13.5–20.25 hours, plus time for individual review and exam preparation. You decide how to spread out your learning. Your course access has no time limit.

Check your progress

At the end of the course, you can take practice exams based on UNIcert criteria. These help you assess your progress and become familiar with exam tasks. The practice exams do not lead to an official UNIcert qualification.
